What are VA Home Loans?

The word “veteran” refers to someone who has served in the armed forces. Included in the group known as veterans are those individuals who have served in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Veterans do a lot for our country.  They fight for our country in war. They are trained and prepared.

In 1865, President Lincoln stood on the Capitol and addressed the nation on the results of the Civil War. He made a promise to the nation’s veterans. He promised “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan.” In laments terms, President Lincoln vowed to serve and honor the men and women who served America. He boldly stated to everyone in the United States that he would protect and honor veterans and their families.

A little after this great speech, the Veterans Administration was created. Later, on March 15, 1989, The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) was created. The VA provides different programs nationwide for U.S. veterans including financial assistance, health care, and burial benefits. The VA also provides home loan assistance.

A VA loan is a type of mortgage that is designed to help veterans and their families buy a home as long as they meet certain eligibility requirements. There is no minimum credit score needed to apply for a VA loan. VA loans are provided by private lenders, like mortgage companies and certain banks. Most lenders require a credit score of at least 620 to apply for a VA loan.
